What started off as a small race between friends in 2006, to gauge their preparation for an Ironman race, the Malta 113k Triathlon has now developed into one of the highlights of the Maltese Triathlon calendar and is gaining strong popularity amongst our international triathlete friends.

In 2011 the concept of Relay Teams was introduced, the objective behind it to introduce more athletes to the sport. A number of athletes undertaking a relay race in one year are often seen competing in the full distance the following year. The popularity of this category has increased substantially since then.

In 2015 the Malta Triathlon Federation designated the Malta 113k Triathlon as as the Long Distance National Triathlon Championships clearly highlighting the importance of this race for the local community.

In 2016 the race reached another milestone when it joined the Ocean Lava Planet Series.
