Ocean Lava Win4Youth

“We want to show that it is possible to put on incredible events in beautiful locations without damaging the environment in the process” says the founder of Ocean Lava, Kenneth Gasque.

With hundreds of competitors and thousands of spectators involved, each event can rapidly turn into a miniature ecological environmental disaster.

To cut down on waste, the team has made efforts to strip single-use plastics from every aspect of their events.

Al plastic bags have been banned from the triathlon transition area. Instead of single use changing bags, one for each discipline, a swim bag for the wetsuit, one for the cycling kit, one for the running kit and the last one for street wear – we have used the classic box ( which  we have reused since 2012) and can easily be used again and again.

For the bike course aid station, the use of single use plastic bottles will be replaced by eco-friendly water bottles made from biobased plastic. Each competitor on the Half & Olympic distance will receive 2 bottles, Super Sprint will receive 1 bottle. The bottles can then be replaced at the aid station.

For the run course, the athletes will be given a reusable soft flask that they can refill themselves at the aid station provided during the run.

At the Ocean Lava Triathlon, littering of any kind will results in automatic disqualification from the race.

We are also paper free, meaning the race program, the start list, the event course maps, event rules and regulation etc. will be present on the www.oceanlava.com website only. It is the participants duty to read and understand the rules and know the courses.
